The JDC running on a server matching the specifications noted above is capable of handling approximately 10,000 page requests per minute. Factoring in traffic peaks and valleys (assuming peak traffic is approximately seven times higher than average traffic), this equates to approximately 2 million page views per day or 60 million per month. The total amount of traffic possible, therefore, may vary depending on how steady traffic is throughout the day, i.e. steadier traffic translates into a higher overall volume capacity since the peaks are not as high.
For sites that are running at higher traffic levels than this, multiple servers running the JDC can be clustered through a simple round-robin load balancing system. (See Data Center for more on load balancing). Because session information is stored on client cookies, it doesn't matter which server handles requests in a given session. In other words, the requests can be sent to any JDC server depending on their load. In this scenario, however, it is required that the ClickTracks Professional Server is used to process the data (as opposed to using the OEM Viewer). The Pro Server will reconstitute visitor sessions based on the cookie information stored with each request. Thus, there is virtually no limit to the scalability of JDC clusters.
